should say 14k, or 10k. ingraved inside the ring.
For one, please make sure you find a barrel hose you can handle. Just because you have been riding for 2 years and have gone to a few shows doesn't mean your ready for a speed horse. Find something that matches your level of skill and that you can learn on.
You typically need a short backed, balanced horse. When I say balanced, I mean that the horses body ties together nicely and they have matching points/angles -
See how none of the horse's croup is higher than the wither and vise versa? Having a balanced barrel racing horse will make it easier for him to collect and turn.
An horse that has nice strong bones and a nice, sloping shoulder is good too. A sloped shoulder helps the horse get around a barrel. A long under belly gives a bigger stride. Also a strong top line, sturdy hooves and a medium sized neck.
Around 14.3 -16 hands is what I prefer. Too big and they cant get in the right shape for a turn and too small is slower. Nice legs, ones that have a straight line from the hip point to the hock and fetlocks. Most barrel horses need to be heavily muscled, especially on the in the hind quarters. Small ears, nice face and large nostrils. Lastly, heart. A horse that loves what he does ands tries his best is good enough for me.
These are just a few things to look for and I hope I helped!!!!
Good Luck!!!!!
you might need a partner who has barrel raced before and has experience to come with you and evaluate the horses conformation.
